Exhibit Design
Below is a selection of exhibitions that I had the honor of designing with diverse roles and teams. Enjoy exploring this mini case study that showcases how I craft historical stories into experiences and education opportunities.
Exhibition Opening for “Hidden Spirits” in Ames NY, 2021. Role: Lead Exhibit Designer
Exhibition Catalog in the book “200 Years of the James Vanderpoel House”, Kinderhook NY, 2020. Role: Author
I. Big Ideas
Every exhibition is guided by a big idea, similar to “How Might We’s” guiding the brainstorming to successful product solutions.
II. Research
Seeking out both primary and secondary sources to minimize bias and maximize the exhibit learning goals of the identified audience.
18th-century news article from Fulton County, NY. fultonhistory.com.
Open source of oral histories, which are primary sources of recorded individual stories in history. CGPcommunitystories.org.
III. Ideation
Brainstorming the spatial experience and accessibility through floorplan sketches and individual display sketches.
Low-fidelity sketches of pedestals, displays, and objects with measurements to get a sense of visual space and movement.
Mid-fidelity sketch a display case with objects and annotations for approximate size and viewing height.
IV. Prototyping
Implementing ideation through low-fidelity prototypes with interactive, to-scale foam models and print images. Prototyping for spatial experiences helps confirm actionable and impactful ideas with audiences before final designs and installation.
To-scale foam floorplan of Ames Gallery with interactive elements to facilitate solutions for displays.
Paper and tape print-outs of schoolhouse images to play with the final layout before professional printing.
V. Installation
Final installation from painting, hanging, and placing pedestals.
Installing ceiling hooks for graphic banners.
Spackling, painting, and placing pedestals.
Art Playground
Ever since I could grasp a paintbrush, I have loved creating. Allow yourself to be guided by imagination through the many mediums I enjoy experimenting with in my spare time.
